Aukamm Elementary School is
located in, and serves, the Aukamm military housing area. It has 11
elementary teachers, special education and host nation teachers, counselor,
speech therapist, reading improvement specialist, nurse, physical education
teacher, librarian, principal, and clerical/supply support personnel.
The school also receives services from the Wiesbaden Guidance Resource
Center. The building has 15 classrooms, a media center, a small multi-purpose
room, and a computer lab.

Hainerberg
Elementary School is in the Hainerberg
military housing area and serves students who live in the Hainerberg,
Crestview, Mainz Kastel, and Wiesbaden Air Base housing areas as well
as students living in economy housing throughout the extended
Wiesbaden area. Special services are provided in the areas of special
education, speech, reading, English as a second language, counseling,
health, art, music, physical education, and media resources.

Wiesbaden
Middle School is a two-story complex in the Hainerberg Housing
area, adjacent to H. H. Arnold High School (HS) and Hainerberg ES. The
staff consists of 25 full-time and part-time teachers, a counselor,
2 special education teachers, information specialist, nurse, secretary,
principal, assistant principal, and two clerks.

The
Gen. H. H. Arnold High School campus has three classroom
buildings, and a gymnasium. The high school not only caters to students
from Wiesbaden, but also from Rhein Main and Darmstadt. The staff consists
of 73 educators including classroom teachers, two counselors, principal,
two assistant principals, a psychologist, social worker, educational
prescriptionist, speech therapist, reading improvement specialist, English
as a second language teacher, electricity/electronics
teacher, and a dental assistant, plus clerical support.

College Credit |
The
American military has education centers in Wiesbaden and offers undergraduate
credits from the University of Maryland, City Colleges of Chicago, Central
Texas, Big Bend Community College, and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
Troy State, Embry Riddle, University of Maryland, and the University
of Oklahoma offer graduate degrees. German courses are available from
the University of Maryland, the Wiesbaden Volkshochschule, LACE, and
private firms. LACE also offers adult noncredit continuing education
courses.

Wiesbaden is the capital of the State of Hessen, it is 23 miles southwest
of Frankfurt on the Rhine River, in the valley of central Germany's Taunus
Mountains. Autobahn connections are available in all directions. |

Military
recreational facilities include a bowling alley, ski club, gymnasiums,
two movie theaters, tennis courts, Armed Forces Radio and Television,
as well as trips and tours through the USO, and Carlson Wagonlit. The
Army Health Clinic in Wiesbaden accepts civilians. Except for emergencies,
civilians are not eligible for dental care. English speaking German dentists
are available in Wiesbaden/Mainz, but can be expensive. Dental work is
best accomplished in the United States. Euros are used on the economy,
while military and government facilities use dollars. Full banking services
are available through the Community Bank. On the economy, volksmarching
(hiking), indoor tennis, swimming, ice skating, bowling, operas, theaters,
casinos, exhibition halls, antique/shopping markets, wine tasting, cross-country
skiing, museums, and spas are available. |

Teachers
and Housing

Teachers
are not eligible for government housing, except for single billeting at
the American Arms Hotel. Apartments and houses on the economy are available
through Housing Referral or commercial agencies. Good apartments in Wiesbaden
are difficult to find and expensive. Initial costs include a 2-month rent
deposit or a fee, if a commercial rental agency is used. Rents vary from
$1,500 to $2,000 and up. Housing supply provides some furniture and large
appliances, but most are in short supply. You should ship your household
goods. Electricity is 220 volts, 50 cycles. American appliances require
a transformer, which can be purchased at post exchanges and thrift shops. |

Autos |

New
or used vehicles may be purchased locally. Repair facilities are available
for both American and foreign vehicles. Licensing and registration procedures
are handled within the community. Commercial transportation is readily
available (military shuttle bus, German buses, taxis). Wiesbaden connects
with all local and major cities through an efficient rail and autobahn
system. Wiesbaden is 35 minutes from Frankfurt International
Airport. |
